Travel Finland - Free porcini mushrooms

December 28th, 2008

During the fall, in August, I felt like I had been working too hard and it was time to take some time off. I rented a lovely villa at www.villalouhela.fi

So I packed up my kids and my husband and I was so looking forward to the weekend with no hassles, just some relaxing.

When we arrived at the location it was so quiet and so peacefull, just what I had hoped for. The place is really excellent, no wonder they have loads of Russian customers, the place has it all.

They have these excellent grills for the Russian customers for meats on scewers, we had to give it a try. You must start burning wood in the grill early, no ready made coals are being used. We got some lamb from a near by farm and some vegetables and scewered them and placed them on the grill, basted them and grilled them, what a treat.

This villa is fully equipped, it has all modern facilities, including a wireless internet connection for up to four computers! They even have a massaging chair, which I used a lot that weekend.

After dinner all of us went for berry and mushroom picking. The special thing about Finland is something called everyman’s rights. That means that no mather what country you come from, you have the right to go to any forest and collect all the berries and mushroom and you get to keep or sell them.

So my kids went and picked wild blueberries and guess what? I found loads of porcini mushrooms, the kind the Italian are dying for and certainly are willing to pay the top dollar. So this took care of my “just sitting in front of the computer and not excercing at all”-problem. What better way to excercise that go in the woods after mushrooms? ( I also found chanterelles and other edible mushrooms)

We warmed the sauna that is on the same area, on the lake shore and after all that I must admit, I slept like a baby…

Is free always free?

October 9th, 2008

I’m sure you’ve come across this too. You get an offer that says you get something free, but if you take the offer, you might end up paying monthly fees (you can cancel anytime). Or get free alternative for product x, but you have to buy the original first and if it wasn’t what you expected, you get a refund and the free alternative.

So if free really free?

Occationally you might get a free product, but you have to pay for shipping. To me that is fine, it is usally mentioned at the beginning, so it does not come as a surpise.

But you know what they say… there is no such thing as a free lunch…

What kind of marketing appeals to you?

September 2nd, 2008

What is it about an offer, that makes you want to buy an affiliate product or join one of those MLMs?

These are the things that definately turn me away from the product:

- if the name has the word millionaire in it

- if there are loads of “proofs” about the wealth this person has made from it

- if it clearly suggests that you’ll be making millions with just seconds of work

What I look for in a product is that it makes sense and doesn’t seem to be one of those “magic tricks” but is really something doable.

These days I don’t join anything or buy anything really easy, I’ve joined and bought loads of useless crap, that I want to invest my money wisely.

One waste of money was a dvd promoting a new product. The sales letter stated how excellent if was and all that and how the promotor was even willing to pitch in for the shipping, if money was tight. Well the dvd seemed very interesting, so I ordered it. (I paid for the shipping myself). The product was interesting until I saw the price for joining: $1500! Hilarious price for a product when marketed to persons who couldn’t even afford shipping…

So back to my initial question: What kind of marketing appeals to you??

Affiliate business basics

August 29th, 2008

Anytime is a good time to use your time to study and learn about things. I’ve never worked at a job where they offered any valuable training. Now that I’m self employed I get to choose what to do for a living and what education I need. I have always valued a job where you really need to give 100% imput and a job where your brains are really needed. I have worked at a hotel, for an American record company, a copyright society and for an American IT-company. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any of these places challenging enough. Now I really love my job. For a person who didn’t know anything about domains, ftp’s, html etc. I’ve come a long way. The learning is really the best part of this job (after the money of course). So I’ve been studying affiliate business basics (you can get it here: http://tinyurl.com/6cef3s

Before I wrote about how difficult it is to write a testimonial about a product you have now clue wheater it will work or not. This course is something else. It all makes sense. There is no faulty promises that you only need to work a minute a day and become a millionaire in a week. This really makes your realize, that this truly is work and you need to do it everyday. When you put your mind to it, YOU WILL SUCCEED!

I highly recommend it, I printed the material (about 100 pages) and just sat on the couch all day learning this and this truly is an excellent product.

Writing testimonials

August 20th, 2008

There is one thing that I find strange about writing testimonials. For some reason, they are always asked before you can actually see if you are ever going to make any money with this product. I must admit, I’m really not a good liar and to me it’s extremely difficult to write a testimonial before I’ve actually given a try at the product. I’ve once had to write a testimonial to an affiliate site, so that it would meet the guidelines for Yahoo’s PPC advertising. Needles to say, it wasn’t enough and there were more things that needed to do to meet the guidelines.

So when I read other peoples testimonials, I really don’t believe them at all and does not effect me in anywaye. (Except that I find them annoying).

I’ve just enjoyed the lovely fall weather, and I’ve been picking wild mushrooms (chantarelles to be exact) all day, cleaning them and frying them. What a living!

Masscontrolsite by Frank Kern

August 14th, 2008

I’ve watched Frank Kern’s marketing videos on his site. In the second video he talks about the rubber neck effect, which basically means, that for some reason people don’t see the pretty flowers on the side of the road, but if there is an accident, they certainly are interested. In the video he tells how he has tested his rates of opened e-mails by changing the title of the e-mail. For some reason the e-mail with the subject “bad news” was the one that was opened the most. Well, guess what. The next morning I woke up, I had my e-mail inbox flooded with “bad news”. What a way to start the morning!

You can see Frank’s videos at http://www.masscontrolsite.com

Advice for newbies on affiliate marketing

August 5th, 2008

My best advice would be do not spend any money at the beginning. If you just want to see what it’s like, you can certainly give it a try for free. Some companies claim you can start for free (get a website etc.), but when you join, you have to buy webhosting, visitors, ppc ads and an autoresponder. I do not recommend starting out with these. There is one program that I do recommend. Here is what they say about themselves: SFI is totally FREE for affiliates to join. And there’s absolutely NO OBLIGATION. SFI provides you with FREE Websites, a FREE course that teaches you everything you need to know to make money online ($295 value), and hundreds of exciting products to stock your online store shelves with.
